Bill's
career spans25 years. He is well known within his industry and
community, with requests coming in from the USA and Japan for his
design services. His designs in the past decade have focused on
the traditional and the classics from yesteryear. These designs
are influenced by the Old World charm of English country and cottages.
Bill's calling card has become the new home that has an "established" look which fits gracefully into its more mature counterparts in
older neighborhoods.
"My
early interests in traditional designs have helped me a great
deal," says Bill. "I enjoy open space, comfortable volume and
natural light. And, I've adapted these elements to the traditional
style of homes in today's market."
Bill's designs are absolutely authentic from both an architectural
and functional viewpoint. Each reflects the design elements that
give the genre its unique character and personality - tall hipped
roofs with open gables, arched dormers, copper finials, paned
windows, oversized wooden exterior shutters, French doors leading
to nature-drenched courtyards and a perfect combination of cast
stone and brick, wood and glass.
With each new design project, Bill has another opportunity to
learn more about the needs of his clients. "I always begin a design
consultation by finding out what the clients are trying to achieve
with the home. I explain that building a home is definitely a
team effort," says Bill. "I'm not just designing something for
myself. The goal is to adapt their dreams into a graphic form."
"Together, we search through old books and photographs discussing
details that they might like to incorporate. Architects and designers
of the past didn't always pay much attention to things that are
very important to us today - such as traffic flow patterns or
storage space. The study of homes from the past can serve us well,
as long as we adapt them to the way people live today."
Equally as important to him is his belief that each room should
have a focal point. Whether that detail is an architectural feature
or a ceiling detail, Bill contends a well-designed room has at
least one element that rivets the eye's attention. It might be
a fireplace, multiple French door sets or dramatic detailing on
the wood timbers surrounding a front door.
